Ingibjoerg married Gissur Thorvaldsson in Hruni when she was very young. They were both 15 or 16 years old. This marriage was a plan between their fathers. After seven years in cohabitation Gissur went to Norway and when he came back their marriage became very unhappy. After their only child, Jon, died very young, they got divorced.
