When Jon murtur was 17 years old his father (Snorri) sent him to Norwegian leaders as a guarantee for peace between Iceland and Norwegian buissnessmen. When Jon came home three years later it seemed that his father wanted him to become famous in Iceland. Since Jon was his only legitimate son Snorri made him work at Althing (the Icelandic legislative assembly).

But when Jon was going to marry Helga, daughter of Saemundur in Oddi, S-Iceland, he asked his father for money to pay Helga's father and the farm Stafholt in Borgarfjoerdur as a confirmation. Then his father told him to ask his mother and get the farm Borg at Myrar as confirmation instead. When Snorri suggests this to Jon he decides not to get married and goes to Norway, a bit angry. Then Snorri regrets his behaviour and offers Jon the farm Stafholt but it was too late because Jon was too proud and stub born to take it. In Norway he became a courtier. Jon was murdered before he could return to Iceland.
