Oraekja was the most famous of Snorri's children. He was rather unfortunate and it seems that Snorri treated Oraekja rather badly at times. He was brought up at Reykholt with Snorri and when he was 27 years old he was made to marry Arnbjoerg, the sister of Kolbeinn ungi, in order to end a quarrel between Snorri and Kolbeinn ungi over inheritance after Hallbera. Although this was the reason for their marriage, she became a good wife to him and stood at his side in difficult matters.

Oraekja was not a lucky man and it seems that everywhere he went unrest and trouble followed. In the end he was sent abroad for three years and there he died in the year 1245.
