The Scene and Style in Voluspa.
This picture was drawn by Vignir
Odin and the Volva
(a sorceress) are speaking to each other. The exitement is based on how
the Volva tells the story like she is trying to exaggerate everything.
She talkes about how the world will crumble under the feet of the earth's
inhabitants because of their mistakes.
Voluspa is based on how the Volva predicts that the
end of the world will be, how everything will crumble, burn and shake
under everyone's feet, but the world will become beautiful again afterwards.
She blames everyone for what is to happen. You might think that it would
be her fault because it is incredible how she might know the turn of events
so accurately. There is a lot of exaggeration and sometimes the future
events are just too incredible. The weirdest thing about the poem is what
happens after the end of the world. When everything has been
destroyed 3 Aesirs return to life, i.e. Hodur, Baldur and Haenir.
They had died very early in the poem. Now, that is weird, very weird!
