We find it very clever how Odin talks about treating your friends and enemies. He says that a good friend is as valuable as gold. Then we also have the phrase, in modern times: Sooner or later everybody dies and after the bright of day there's always sunset.
What does not fit with modern day rules is e.g.: You should never go
anywhere without your weapons. You'd be considered a lunatic here in Iceland
if you carried weapons with you because you were afraid of dying.
