The Natives of America
The Natives of America were the first people to live where the Vínland of Leifur's was, i.e. the Indians.  They had dark skin and black hair.  They lived together in small villages all over America and of course they weren´t all alike even if they had  similar looks.  And when we talk about looks it is worth mentioning  that Indians do not grow beards.  That's why some of the people called "skraelingjar" in the sagas must have been Inuits but not Indians.  (See chapter 12th in The Saga of Eiríkur the Red.)
[The picture of a "skraelingi" was drawn by Sævar Birgir.]

It is known that the Indians  lived in tents that were easy to move around and also that they lived in caves.

The Natives of America buried the bodies of family-members  but some important person, like a chiftain, died then he was put on a high decorated offset so that the predadors couldn´t get to the body.  But of course the burying habits differed  between various tribes of the natives.
