Bolli Thorleiksson is one of the main characters of Laxdaela saga. He was fostered by Olafur pa and Thorgerdur and thus he was Kjartan Olafsson's foster-brother. Bolli got married to Gudrun Osvifursdottir and at first they lived at Laugar, then moved to Saelingsdalstunga.
Bolli was very handsome and elegant. He had a beautiful figure and was very strong. Yet he was always calm and polite. He was the second best in everything but Kjartan always came first. Bolli was popular but not as popular as Kjartan. Despite being the second best all the time he loved his foster-brother very much and Kjartan loved him.
Bolli was the son of Thorleikur Hoeskuldsson, who was Olafur pa's half-brother. He was adopted by Olafur and his wife, Thorgerdur Egilsdottir, when he was 3 years old. They lived at Hjardarholt in Laxardalur.
Bolli, Kjartan and Gudrun Osvifursdottir were all good friends and very often they met at the hot springs near Laugar, where they used to take a bath. Kjartan and Gudrun had been having a love affair when he and Bolli decided to go to Norway. Gudrun wanted to join them but Kjartan didn't want her to and asked her to wait for him for three years. Kjartan and Bolli sail abroad and Kjartan is kept as a hostage by the king of Norway (who was trying to persuade Icelanders to become Christian). Bolli went back to Iceland and when Gudrun asked him about Kjartan he exaggerated a rumour about Kjartan and Ingibjoerg, the sister of the king. Bolli insinuates that Kjartan won't come back to Iceland and talks Gudrun into marrying him. As nothing is heard from Kjartan Gudrun does so.
When Kjartan gets back to Iceland and learns that Bolli and Gudrun have got married, he gets cross. He stoppes being Bolli's friend.
Bolli's life becomes rather sad after he's married to Gudrun, because she didn't love him. When Kjartan stopped being his friend, he started spoiling things for Bolli and offend him. Bolli tries to reconcile with Kjartan but without success.
At last Gudrun persuaded Bolli to go with her brothers and kill Kjartan. She threatened to divorce him if he didn't join her brothers. So Bolli went with them and killed his own foster-brother, Kjartan.
A few years later, the sons of Olafur pa (Kjartan's brothers) took a revenge for Kjartan, because their mother, Thorgerdur, urged them to do so. Bolli was in his mountain dairy when a lot of men came armed to the teeth. He tried to defend himself but they were too many and killed him. The one who mortally wounded him was called Helgi Hardbeinsson. Later Bolli Bollason, son of Gudrun and Bolli Thorleiksson, killed Helgi.
