Gudrun was the most beautiful woman in Iceland and the most clever too.
When Gudrun was fifteen years old she met Gestur Oddleifsson and asked him to interprete four strange dreams that she had recently dreamt. Those four dreams foretold her four marriages. Gestur interpreted the dreams the way that every marriage would only last for a short time. Either they would end by divorce or death.
Gudrun's first husband was Thorvaldur, her second husband was Thordur Ingunnarson, the third was Bolli Thorleiksson and the fourth was Thorkell Eyjolfsson. She loved some of them but actually she loved Kjartan Olafsson most. She didn't marry him because Bolli lied to her that Kjartan was having an affair with Ingibjoerg, the king's sister, in Norway. You could say that Bolli forced Gudrun to get married to him. When Kjartan got back to Iceland and Gudrun was already married to Bolli, he married Hrefna and gave her a precious head gear that he was originally going to give to Gudrun. Gudrun got very angry and in Olaf pa's party this head gear mysteriously disappeared. Some people thought that Gudrun caused the disappearance.
Later Gudrun encouraged her brothers to kill Kjartan and she treathened to divorce Bolli if he wouldn't help her brothers. Bolli kills Kjartan even if he doesn't want to. Thorgerdur, Kjartan's mother, makes her sons kill Bolli. Gudrun is pregnant when Bolli is killed. She gives birth to a son called Bolli and plans to make him and Thorleikur, his older brother, take revenge for their father when they are old enough.
Gudrun marries Thorkell Eyjolfsson after having lurched Thorgils Hoelluson into killing one of Bolli's killers by pretending to marry him if he did so. Gudrun's relative, Snorri Thorgrimsson, wanted her to marry Thorkell Eyjolfsson. Gudrun and Thorkell had a son called Gellir.
Thorkell drowned when sailing on his ship in bad stormy weather. Gudrun saw the ghosts of Thorkell and his crew the same day as they died.
After Thorkell's death Gudrun got very religious and often spent the nights in the church saying prayers and crying. She became a nun, first one in Iceland, and later an ancress. She got very old and was blind for the last years of her life.
