Revenge after Gunnar

It wouldn't take long until the great hero, Gunnar at Hlidarendi, was revenged. His son, Hogni, and Skarphedinn Njalsson saw to that. Rannveig, Gunnar's mother, had forbidden every man to touch Gunnar's "atgeir" (a special kind of a spear) unless he would take care of his revenge. Last night Gunnar showed up in the open grave mound, he sat upright and turned against the moon. He recited a verse which to Hogni and Skarphedinn seemed to mean that Gunnar would rather die than give way to his enemies. He encouraged Hogni and Skarphedinn to seek revenge. After having watched this scene Hogni took the "atgeir" and he and Skarphedinn left together.

At Oddi Skarphedinn killed Tjorvi and Hogni killed Hroaldur, the son of chieftain Geir. Then the went under a mountain called Thrihyrningur where Skarphedin killed Starkadur and Hogni killed Thorgeir Starkadarson. They also went to Hof but Mordur asked them to spare his life and Hogni then alone decided the amount of money Mordur was to pay him for killing Hogni's father.
