The
Natives of America were the first people to live where the Vínland
of Leifur's was, i.e. the Indians. They had dark skin and black hair.
They lived together in small villages all over America and of course they
weren´t all alike even if they had similar looks. And
when we talk about looks it is worth mentioning that Indians do not
grow beards. That's why some of the people called "skraelingjar"
in the sagas must have been Inuits but not Indians. (See chapter
12th in The Saga of Eiríkur the Red.)

It is known that the Indians lived in tents that were easy to
move around and also that they lived in caves.
The Natives of America buried the bodies of family-members but
some important person, like a chiftain, died then he was put on a high
decorated offset so that the predadors couldn´t get to the body.
But of course the burying habits differed between various tribes
of the natives.
