The Lay of Helluland and Markland
Leifur, Eiríkur’s son, and his men went searching for lands that they had heard of.  First they found a land which was like a one stone slab with ice cap on the top.  He gave it the name Helluland which literally means Stone slab land.  He thought it was a land without any qualities.  This land probably was Baffin Island.

They continued their journey and found another land.  It was faultless, like a one forest and had white sands.  To this land Leifur  gave the name Markland which literally means Forestland.  Markland is believed to be Labrador.
