Gods and godesses

Odinn is the supreme god. He is the god of poetry and is omniscient. Freyr is the god of fertility and he's very handsome and powerful, Tyr is the god of battle and courage. A good example of how brave Tyr is was when he put his hand in the mouth of Fenrisulfur and lost his hand. Loki is god of trickery and falsehood. He's both false and evil. Thor is god of manhood and physical powers. He has the hammer Mjoellnir and slays giants whith it. He also has some other talismans like belts of strength, which make him stronger, iron gloves and two he-goats that pull his wagon whereever he wants to go and also serve as his food!Njordur is the god of the sea.

Freyja is a godess of fertility. When she cries her tears are of gold. Sometimes she is called Vanadis. Sjoefn is a godess of love. Frigg is the oldest and supreme godess.

The names of the gods and the godesses are still used in modern times, for instance on ships, firms and streets. A chocolate plant in Iceland is called Freyja and the Icelandic coastguard vessels are called Odinn, Tyr and Aegir.
